Cougars Sweep FDU-Florham to Secure #2 Seed

The Misericordia University baseball team secured the second seed for the upcoming Freedom Conference Championships after sweeping FDU-Florham in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Madison, NJ.
 
The Cougars picked up a 2-1 victory in game two and then cruised to a 10-3 victory in the finale.
 
Jeremy DeCotiis and Mike Comerford led the MU offense with one hit and one RBI each in the opener.
 
Ryan Dorosh, Garrett Pelko, Corey Lee and Corey Logalski combined to allow just one run while surrendering just two hits and striking out 11 over seven innings of work. Pelko was credited with the victory after 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
 
MU jumped out to a 1-0 victory in the top of the first when Boroch trotted in from third on a Comerford ground ball to shortstop.
 
DeCotiis then drove in the Cougars' final run of the game with an RBI single in the top of the fifth.
 
The Devils picked up one run in the top of the seventh, but Rogalski worked his way out of the jam to earn the save.
 
Kyle Lindsay and DeCotiis led the MU offense in game two with two hits and two RBI each while Chris Boroch and Steve Cuccio drove in one run each in the victory.
 
Jake Kurtz earned the victory on the mound with three innings of scoreless relief, including three strikeouts. Jim Tunison and Elliot Forde added scoreless innings of relief.
 
Lindsay started the scoring spree with an RBI double in the top of the first. Comerford followed with an RBI single to right and then scored on a throwing error later in the inning, giving MU a 3-0-advantage heading into the bottom of the first.
 
The Devils bounced back with a three-run homer in the home half of the first to tie the game at 3-3.
 
Lindsay started another rally with an RBI single to right field in the second. The Cougars added another run on a dropped third strike and a throwing error and then got another run on a delayed steal, extending their lead to 6-3 after two.
 
Cuccio added an RBI double in the third and DeCotiis ripped an RBI triple in the fourth, giving MU an 8-3 lead after four.
 
Boroch and DeCotiis drove in the final runs in the fifth, capping the 10-3 victory.
 
With the sweep, MU finishes its regular season 26-10 overall and 14-7 in the conference. The Devils finished 10-25 overall and 7-14 in the conference.
 
The Cougars return to action Thursday for the opening round of the Freedom Conference Championships against third-seeded Manhattanville.
