The Misericordia University women's soccer team defeated Acarida, 3-1, at Mangelsdorf Field Saturday.
Alex Gallagher spearheaded the Cougar attack, scoring two first-half goals and assisting the other.
Hannah Larkin scored a late second half goal to seal the game and
Ashley Edgell provided an assist.
On Gallagher's first goal she collected a loose ball inside the box, took a touch and shot into the left corner of the net in the 37
th minute.
Two minutes later, Edgell played a ball into Gallagher who found the back of the net again.
Maureen Ciccosanti made four saves in the first half, including coming off her line and diving on a ball to stop an early breakaway.
In the second half,
Alyssa Pojero came in at goalie and made a diving save to stop a breakaway five minutes into the half.
A minute later, Arcadia scored off a corner kick to get within 2-1.
It was back and forth for the next 20 minutes, with Arcadia missing wide a few times.
In the 77
th minute, Gallagher turned provider, finding Larkin all alone just inside the 18. She took a touch and ripped a shot into the left corner.
Pojero punched a free kick over the crossbar in the 88
th minute to preserve the 3-1 lead.
The Cougars move to 7-2 on the year and will host Lebanon Valley, Wednesday at Mangelsdorf Field at 7:00.
