Haley Gruber picked a good time to score her first collegiate goal.
The first-year midfielder's goal off of a feed from
Suzhaunna Lerch in the 60
th minute was the difference in the Misericordia field hockey team's 3-2 victory over Wesley, Friday at McGeehan Field.
Lindsay Hischak and
Jennifer O'Neill added goals and Lerch had two assists as the Cougars improved to 2-0.
The teams had a flurry of goals scored in the first half, scoring four total goals in the first 19 minutes.
Hischak started things off with
Sarah Gamble providing the assist at 8:33. Â Â O'Neill put the Cougars up less than three minutes later off a feed from Lerch.
The Wolverines scored twice in an eight-minute span later in the half to tie things up at 2-2.
Midway through the second half, Hischak played a cross to
Kailey Vogl who nearly put MU in front, but Wesley goalie Kayla Fromal made a nice stop to preserve the tie.
However, Gruber provided the game-winner just minutes later at 60:34.
The Cougars outshot Wesley 13-5 and won the corner battle 12-5. They also were very accurate as they put 11 of their 13 shots on the cage.
The Cougars return to action tomorrow to face number two ranked Salisbury at 2 p.m. at Mangelsdorf Field.
