Japriya Carroll scored a career-high 16 points as the Misericordia University women's basketball team resumed MAC Freedom play with a 65-52 win at Wilkes, Wednesday.
Justine Seely added 11 points and 13 rebounds for her fifth consecutive double-double and
Liz Waleski added 10 points.
MU opened the game on an 11-0 run and never trailed while improving to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in the MAC Freedom.
Leanne Forsyth and
Rachel Carmody combined for first nine points of the game and Seely added a layup to give MU an 11-0 lead just three minutes into the game.
Shannon Croasdale and Carmody both made jumpers to extend the lead to 15-4 at the end of the first quarter.
Carroll hit a three-pointer to give MU a 20-6 lead four minutes into the second quarter and Waleski added a three-pointer to make it 25-11 with 3:32 left in the first half.
Alexa Plitt's three-pointer put MU up 28-13 with 2:41to go and neither teamed scored the rest of the way.
Carroll opened the third quarter with another three-pointer to give MU a 31-13 lead.
After a 7-0 Wilkes run, Seely's layup and a jumper by Forsyth made it 35-20 with 6:41 to go in the third period.
Back-to-back layups by
Shannon Croasdale and a pair of free throws from Waleski gave the Cougars a 43-27 lead with 2:28 left in the third quarter.
Wilkes cut the margin to eight points early in the fourth quarter, but Carroll and Seely combined for six straight points to re-establish a 14-point advantage, 50-36, with 7:31 to play.
Wilkes cut it to eight again with 4:57 remaining, but Croasdale answered with a jumper for a 52-42 lead.
Seely followed with two free throws to make it 54-42 with less than four minutes remaining and the Cougars maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Carroll, Waleski and Seely combined to shoot 93.3% (14-15) from the foul line.
MU will host Manhattanville, Saturday at 1:00.
