Despite a new career by
Justine Seely for the second straight game, the Misericordia University women's basketball team fell to hot-shooting Delaware Valley, 95-81, Wednesday night in the Anderson Center.
Seely led four Cougars in double figures with 34 points and added a game-high 11 rebounds.Â
Liz Waleski had 14 points,
Rachel Carmody added 12 and Alex Plitt had 11.
Eireann Anastasi had a game-high 40 points to lead the Aggies.
Waleski buried a three-pointer from the right corner to get the Cougars within 52-51 with 7:24 to play in the third quarter, but the Aggies scored five straight points to go up 57-51.
Seely hit a foul-line jumper, but Anastasi answered with back-to-back three-pointers for a 63-53 lead midway through the period.
Waleski drained another three-pointer from the left wing, but Anastasi closed the period with a layup to give the Aggies a 72-61 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
Seely opened the fourth quarter with a pair of free throws, but the Aggies regained a double-digit lead and maintained it the rest of the way.
The Cougars closed the first half on a 6-0 run to pull within 46-41 at intermission. Hajec fed Seely underneath for a layup and Seely returned the favor on the next possession. Seely ended the first half scoring with a pair of free throws with :01 remaining.
Misericordia will host FDU-Florham, Saturday at 1:00.
