FDU-Florham used a big third quarter to break open a close game in an 80-64 win over Misericordia in MAC Freedom women's basketball action, Saturday afternoon in the Anderson Center.
With Misericordia leading 37-36, the Devils went on a 17-0 run to take a 53-37 lead late in the third quarter.
Rachel Carmody,
Japriya Carroll and
Justine Seely all had 14 points for the Cougars while
Liz Waleski added 10.
Seely had seven rebounds and five blocks and Carmody had seven rebounds.
After FDU used a 12-0 run to take an 18-8 lead, the Cougars battled back to within 22-17 on back-to-back layups by Seely and Waleski near the end of the first quarter.
FDU answered with a bucket to lead 24-17 after one period.
Carmody hit a baseline jumper and converted the three-point play to cut the deficit to 26-22 with 7:28 left in the second quarter.
Down 32-28, Plitt drained a baseline jumper and Carroll converted a fast break layup into a three-point play to get within a point, 32-31, with 2:49 left in the second period.
Seely opened the second half with a layup to give MU a 37-36 lead, but the Devils responded with 17 unanswered points to take control.
Misericordia will travel to DeSales, Wednesday.
