The Misericordia University field hockey team defeated Delaware Valley, 2-0, at McGeehan Field, Saturday afternoon.
Colby Eldridge had two goals and
Kailey Vogl assisted both of them.
The Cougars drew the first penalty corner of the game just under four minutes in and immediately capitalized.
Rebecca Kaschak played the ball in to Vogl who laid it off to Eldridge. Eldridge put a shot off the near post and in to give MU 1-0 lead.
Ten minutes later the Cougars almost doubled their lead.
Haley Gruber got the ball off an Aggie player on MU's side of the field and took off the other way. She played the ball over to Vogl who passed it ahead to
Zoe Klunk who dribbled down and shot, but the keeper kicked it wide.
MU went into the half up 1-0.
Six minutes into the second half, Misericordia threatened again.
Eldridge played a corner to Vogl who hit it right back to her and Eldridge played it through the middle, but MU couldn't get a stick on it.
With 20 minutes to go in the game Misericordia struck again.
Vogl got the ball on a breakaway and hit it through to Eldridge who shot it past the keeper to double MU's lead.
Delaware Valley had four penalty corners in the final 20 minutes, but the Misericordia defense held strong.
Katelyn Campbell had a strong day in goal, making eight saves to earn the first shutout of her career.
The Cougars will play at King's, Friday at 7:00.
