The Misericordia University field hockey team won, 2-1, in overtime over William Paterson, Wednesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Maddie Keegan scored the winner off a pass from
Colby Eldridge. Eldridge
scored the first goal off an assist from
Melanie Fry.
Six minutes into the contest,
Haley Gruber passed the ball to Fry who put a shot on goal but the William Paterson keeper kicked it wide.
Later in the half, Eldridge came down the right wing and passed to Vogl who smashed a shot towards goal but it went just wide.
With eight minutes to go in the half Fry sent the ball into the middle and Eldridge smacked it off a Pioneer defender and in to make the score 1-0 Misericordia heading into halftime.
MU came flying out to start the second half, putting four shots on goal and drawing several penalty corners. William Patterson withstood the pressure and several minutes later, they tied the score at 1-1.
A few minutes later William Paterson got a shot off from point blank but
Emily Galasso made an outstanding defensive save to keep the score at 1-1.
Neither team could find a winner in the final 20 minutes, so extra time was needed.
A little under three minutes into OT, Eldridge intercepted a pass on the Pioneer half of the field. She dribbled down and laid it off to Keegan who placed it into the far side of the goal to give MU the win.
Katelyn Campbell made five saves in goal for the Cougars.
Misericordia outshot William Paterson 16-8 and had the advantage in penalty corners, 18-9.
MU will play Manhattanville on Senior Appreciation Day, Saturday at 1:00.
