A five goal, second half explosion powered the Misericordia women's soccer team past Eastern, 6-0, Wednesday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.
Ashley Edgell scored twice while
Jeanna Orfanos,
Amber Hartranft,
Jacqueline Stevens and
Gabby Babula score one goal apiece. Stevens had three assists while
Alexa Alchevsky,
Jordyn Powell and Orfanos each had one.
In the 30
th minute, Stevens played in a corner from the left side that Alchevsky headed towards net and
Orfanos redirected it past the keeper to make it 1-0.
MU went into the half up 1-0.
Six minutes into the second half, Stevens sent in a corner towards the near post that Hartranft
placed into the side netting to make it 2-0.
In the 58
th minute, Stevens sent in a low cross from the right side that Edgell
shot first time towards net. The ball bounced off the keeper's outstretched arm and in to make it 3-0.
Sixteen seconds later, Stevens scored a goal of her own. She came down the left wing and cut inside before she
curled the ball into the top right corner to make it 4-0.
In the 66
th minute, Orfanos came sprinting down the left wing, cut the ball back and played it across the middle. Edgell was waiting on the left side and took a touch before she
fired the ball into the bottom left corner to make it 5-0.
In the 82
nd minute Powell dispossessed an Eagles defender and played a through ball to a cutting Babula. She took a touch before
tapping the ball past the keeper to make it 6-0.
Misericordia is 9-3 on the year and 3-0 in the MAC Freedom.
They will next play at Wilkes, Saturday at 2:30.
