Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Seniors Shine on Senior Night as Cougars Beat Devils, Clinch Playoff Berth

The Misericordia University men's soccer team clinched a spot in the MAC Freedom playoffs after a hard fought 4-2 victory over FDU Florham, on a cold and windy Saturday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.

Trey Ziegler, Dante Ippolito, Chris Edkins and Devin Marriott found the back of the net while D. Ippolito, George Stock and Niko Amity each had one assist.

In the fifth minute, Marriott got his head on a ball and directed it towards goal, but it caromed off the crossbar.

Nine minutes later, D. Ippolito came down the left wing and sent in a cross towards the back post that Ziegler headed home to make it 1-0 MU.

In the 24th minute D. Ippolito submitted his bid for goal of the season. He took a touch and then from 25 yards out rocketed the ball into the upper right corner of the goal to make it 2-0 MU.

In the 41st minute FDU-Florham got one so Misericordia went into the half with a 2-1 lead.

Six minutes into the second half George Stock sent in a free kick into the box. Edkins beat everyone to it and headed the ball in the net to make it 3-1.

A few minutes later, Ziegler found Anthony Ippolito on the back post but his shot went inches wide of goal.

In the 84th minute the Devils broke the MU defense and scored to make it 3-2. But MU would strike again, off another deadball, to put the game away.

Amity played in a dead ball from the right side that Marriott headed into the left corner to make it 4-2.

Misericordia outshot FDU-Florham 14-10.

Misericordia will play at Susquehanna, Wednesday at 7:00.
