The Misericordia University women's soccer team clinched the top seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament with an impressive 2-0 win over FDU-Florham, Saturday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.
Emily Szeflinski had a goal and an assist and
Amber Hartranft added a goal.Â
Jacqueline Stevens assisted on both goals for the Cougars who improved to 13-3 overall and 6-0 in the MAC Freedom.
With a strong wind at their back, the Cougars grabbed an early lead when Stevens played a ball back to Szeflinski in the middle of the box where
she slotted it inside the left post for a 1-0 lead at 2:14.
Stevens had a pair of dangerous shots midway through the first half, but one was saved and the second was ripped wide left.
The Cougars made it 2-0 when Szeflinski played a ball from the top of the box to Stevens on the left flank and she served it across the box to Hartranft
who tapped it inside the right post at 32:42.
MU nearly scored again just two minutes later when Stevens got a toe on a loose ball in the box, but poked it wide right.
Misericordia held a 28-3 edge in shots and had a 9-1 advantage in corners.
The Cougars will host Ithaca, Tuesday.
