The Misericordia women's soccer team lost 1-0 to Scranton, Wednesday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.
The Royals took the lead nine minutes from halftime, scoring on a breakaway which put MU in a 1-0 hole at the break, despite Misericordia holding a slight edge in shots, 6-5.
The Cougars came roaring out to start the second half, taking seven shots in the first 10 minutes.
In the 56
th minute,
Kylen Smith played a low cross to
Jeanna Orfanos who beat a defender before curling a shot just wide of the far post.
In the 73
rd minute,
Alex Gallagher ripped a low shot towards goal that the Scranton keeper just managed to knock wide of the goal.
A couple of minutes later, Gallagher sent in a cross from the right wing that nearly went in at the far post, but wound up inches wide of the goal.
MU took eight shots in the final 10 minutes, forcing the Royals keeper to make several saves.
In the 85
th minute, Orfanos got to a loose ball in the box and shot it at goal but the Scranton keeper made a great save to knock the ball out of play.
A minute later,
Jacqueline Stevens sent a ball into the box that glanced off the crossbar.
In the 88
th minute, Stevens played in a corner that found
Alexa Alchevsky, but her header caromed off the post.
Misericordia outshot Scranton, 29-7 and had more corners, 12-1. Â
