Jacqueline Stevens scored the game's lone goal as the top-seeded Misericordia University women's soccer team advanced to the MAC Freedom title match with a 1-0 win over FDU-Florham, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
After stripping a defender on the left flank, Stevens lofted a left-footed shot into the upper right corner at 20:06 and the Cougars defense made it stand up as they held the Devils without a shot.
MU had plenty of chances as they fired 33 shots for the game, including 10 on goal.
Bryanna Webber made nine saves in goal for FDU-Florham.
Amber Hartanft nearly gave the Cougars an insurance goal with 15 minutes left in the first half when she ripped a shot from 12 yards out, but Webber deflected the ball over the crossbar.
After applying constant pressure throughout the first half, the Cougars picked up where they left off with four shots in a four-minute span early in the second half.
MU had a dangerous opportunity 10 minutes into the second half when
Kylen Smith carried deep down left side, crossed to
Emily Szeflinski who tapped the ball to Orfanos, but her shot was just wide right
Just two minutes later, the Cougars quick countered on an FDU-Florham deep in MU's end. Smith intercepted the throw and found Stevens who carried down the left side Orfanos at the top of the box, but her shot sailed just high.
The Devils best chance of the second half came on a corner with less than four minutes remaining, but the MU defense was able to win the ball out of the air.
Misericordia improved to 16-3 and will host DeSales, Saturday at 4:00.
