Tony Harding scored a game-high 23 points as the Misericordia University men's basketball team closed out the first semester with a 104-68 win over Valley Forge, Saturday afternoon in the Anderson Center.
Harding added a game-high 11 rebounds for the double-double and
Jason Kenny added 16 points and six assists.Â
James Hawk had 10 points and 15 different players scored for the Cougars.
The Patriots converted two turnovers into points to open the game and took an early 8-2 lead.
Jamie Egan drilled a three-pointer from the left wing and Fields made two free throws before Harding completed a three-point play to pull the Cougars even, 10-10.
Hawk's reverse layup along the baseline put MU in front and Harding scored five straight points for a 17-12 lead.
Kenny found Harding underneath and Hawk added two free throws for a 23-13 MU lead with 11:02 to go in the first half.
Harding drained a three-pointer from the right wing off a nice pass from Hawk following an offensive rebound for a 36-24 lead with 6:35 left in the first half.
Stone McCreary made it 41-27 with a three-pointer from the left wing on a nice pass from Harding and Sponaugle converted on a two-on-one break with Kenny to make it 46-34.
Fields closed the first half with a three-pointer from the corner for a 49-34 advantage.
The Cougars put the game away with a 27-8 run to open the second half to take a 76-42 lead with 13:50 remaining.
Kenny found Harding on the block to open the half and then fed Hawk for a dunk off an inbounds.
Harding converted a three-point play and Hawk's steal led to a fast break layup from Kenny and a58-37 lead.
Hawk added another dunk and Sponaugle made two three-pointers for a 70-41 less than six minutes into the second half.
Alec Rodway found
Noah Rivera underneath and then fed
Jamie Egan on a two-on-one break for a 76-42 lead.
Jake Szczecina and
Brendan Leonard made three-pointers and
Josh Bucher had four three throws as the Cougars went up 99-64 with 1:33 to go.
Bailey Brugler scored five points in the final minute for MU.
Misericordia, 8-1, will play at Albright, December 29.
