The Misericordia University men's basketball team rode a hot-shooting night to a 98-76 win at Utica, Friday night.
Jason Kenny had a game-high 28 points to lead five players in double figures for the Cougars.Â
Tony Harding and
Tre Fields both had 17 points while
James Hawk and
Stone McCreary each added 11 points.
Kenny added six rebounds and six assists and Hawk had four blocked shots.
Misericordia never trailed and shot 55% from the floor, including 46.7 from three-point range, while improving to 5-1.
The Cougars led 60-56 with 12:28 left in the second half, but took control of the game with a 20-4 run over the next six minutes to stretch their lead to 80-60.
Harding scored five straight points, including a three-point play, to start the run and Fields and Kenny combined for five free throws to make it 74-60.
Fields added four more free throws and Kenny added a layup to end the spurt.
Kenny scored eight points over the final 1:09 of a back-and-forth first half as the Cougars took a 46-38 halftime lead.
Kenny picked up where he left off with a pair of three-pointers early in the second half to give MU a 58-41 lead less than three minutes into the second half.
The Pioneers chipped away and eventually pulled within 60-56 before MU's game-winning spurt.
Misericordia will visit Rutgers-Newark, Monday.
