Box Score The Misericordia University men's basketball team won 89-77 at Manhattanville, Saturday afternoon at the Kennedy Gymnasium.
With the win, MU will host a MAC Freedom playoff game against Delaware Valley, on Wednesday.
James Hawk led the way for MU with 26 points and nine rebounds while
Griffin Sponaugle scored 15 points and grabbed two steals.
Jason Kenny added 15 points as well while
Erik Kerns did a bit of everything, notching seven points, seven assists, five rebounds and a block.
The second half saw both teams catch fire from the three point line, with teams combining to make 10 threes in a seven minute span.
The score was 56-50 MU when the downpour of three-pointers began at Kennedy Gymnasium.
Sponaugle started things off with back to back threes, Manhattanville hit one, then McGarry drained a three off a Rodway assist but the Valiants responded again.
Kenny and Hawk made two foul shots and a layup respectively during the three-point fest.
Marlow drilled a three from the left wing, which MU followed up with a stop and then Kenny found Sponaugle in the corner for another three, making it 77-70 with 4:51 to go in the game.
A few minutes later, Marlow made two foul shots, Sponaugle stole a pass and then Kenny made a driving lay-up in traffic to give MU an 85-74 lead.
MU started the half with a quick 11-2 burst, which Sponaugle capped with an "and one" circus layup on the left side of the paint over the larger Manhattanville defender to make it 44-42 MU. A few minutes later the threes began.
MU started the game off scoring in the paint.
Hawk got MU on the board with a lay-up off an assist from Kerns.
Hawk went on to score the first eight Cougar points, with assists from Kenny,
Alec Rodway and Marlow.
Later on in the half, MU mounted a 13-2 run to take lead at 28-23.
Jamie Egan had his hand in most of the run, nailing two three pointers and assisting on a Hawk layup.
The teams traded baskets, with two Davy foul shots tying the score at 32-32 with 1:57 in the half.
Kerns scored the final basket of the half on a strong drive and finished with the left-hand, making it 40-36 Manhattanville heading into the half.
MU out rebounded Manhattanville, 38-32, shot a better percentage from the floor 32-61 (52.5) to the Valiants 30-66 (45.5%).
Both teams made 10 threes, MU going 10-28 (35.7%) while Manhattanville went 10-25 (40.0 %).
MU finishes the regular season 15-10, 9-5 in the MAC Freedom.
