The Misericordia University women's basketball team 75-63 lost at Manhattanville in their final game of the season, Saturday afternoon at the Kennedy Gymnasium.
Justine Seely led the Cougars with 19 points while
Japriya Carroll added 11 points, making two three-pointers.
Rachel Carmody and
Shannon Croasdale each had nine points.
Manhattanville blew the game open in the third quarter, outscoring MU 32-11 and opened the third quarter on an 11-0 run.
MU made a game of it fourth, opening the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run.
First
Nikki Baro scored on a layup off a feed from Croasdale and then Seely went one of two at the foul line.
Croasdale followed that up by scoring while being fouled and converting the foul shot.
Finally, Carmody drained a three at the top of the key off a pass from
Haley Fitzpatrick, cutting the deficit to 18 at 67-49.
Baro was fouled and made both her fouls, the final two buckets of her career, with 2:21 left in the game.
MU finished the game on an 11-5 run with Seely's foul shot as the final score of the game.
The Cougars hung with Manhattanville throughout the first half.
Carroll scored the first two buckets of the game for the Cougars, first a layup off a feed from Carmody and then Carroll drained a top of the key three which gave MU its only lead of the game at 5-4.
Carmody drained a jumper off a pass from
Leanne Forsyth and the 1
st quarter ended with the Valiants ahead, 20-12.
Early in the second quarter, Carroll scored on back to back possessions, then Seely got her defender in the air with a pump fake, then drove to the hoop and laid it in, cutting the deficit to four at 22-18 with 6:02 to go.
That was as close as MU would get in the game.
Baro scored two points, grabbed three rebounds and handed out three assists in her final game as a Cougar.
MU finishes the season at 7-18, 3-11 in the MAC Freedom.
