The Misericordia women's lacrosse team lost to Alvernia, 5-4, on a cool Wednesday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.
Liz Mulvey,
Alexandra Elmes,
Olivia Garcia and
Erin Baker all scored once for the Cougars.
Brianna Ladner had five ground balls while
Emily Russin had three draw controls.
MU looked to be in trouble early when the Crusaders scored three goals in the first four minutes of the game.
But the Cougars tightened up their defense and then got one back when Mulvey cut across the goal
from left side and into the upper right side of the net to make it 3-1 with 20:21 to go in the half.
Ten minutes later Elmes scored, again coming in from the left wing, this time shooting just inside the right post.
Katie McLoughlin made a save on a shot from point-blank range right before the horn sounded.
Alvernia scored three minutes into the second half to make it 4-2, and then scored one more with 21:52 to make it 5-2.
Garcia scored two minutes later to pull MU back within two.
The Cougars had a goal disallowed at the 10:00 minute mark which would prove to be the difference.
Baker scored a free-position goal to get MU within one, but MU would not score again.
Misericordia managed three shots in the final 5:26, but the Alvernia goalie saved two and the final one went wide.
Misericordia returns to action, Wednesday at Lycoming, at 4:00.
