The Misericordia University softball team earned a split with previously unbeaten Manhattanville, Saturday afternoon at Anderson Field.
The Cougars scored the game's only run in the bottom of the ninth to take the opener, 1-0, while the Valiants rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to win the nightcap, 2-1.
In the opener,
Bailee Schies pitched nine shutout innings to earn the win.
Misericordia combined two hits and two hit batters to score the game's only run in the bottom of the ninth.
Lori Brennan singled with one out and pinch-runner
Jessica Pluta moved to second when
Melissa Parker was hit by a pitch.
Whitney Ellenberg loaded the bases with an infield single and
Cailey Ware reached via hit by pitch to force in the winning run.
Schies struck out six while scattering six hits. Manhattanville's Alycia Feeney struck out 10 over 8.2 innings and held MU hitless over the first eight innings.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first of game two and Schies made it stand up until the seventh.
Abby Marzzacco reached on a one-out infield single and moved up on Brennan's bunt single.Â
Caitlin Kennedy's two-out single to left gave MU the lead.
Schies again went the distance, allowing just six hits while striking out two.
Misericordia is 14-8 overall and 5-1 in the MAC Freedom.
