The Misericordia men's lacrosse team lost to FDU-Florham, 10-9 in overtime, on a windy Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf field.
Chris Fleming scored three,
Andrew Reynolds scored twice while
Lane Kocovsky,
Philip Fraher,
Kyle Reese and
Patrick DeMichele each scored one.
The Devils scored the winner three minutes into the extra frame.
MU struck first through Fraher six minutes into the game, and then Fleming scored again six minutes later to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
There was a quick three goal flurry to end the first quarter as FDU-Florham tallied their first goal. Goals from Reynolds and Fleming, with Kenna providing the assist on the second goal, left the score at 4-1 to end the first quarter.
Misericordia pushed their lead to 6-1 after Reese and Fleming found the back of the net two minutes apart.
FDU-Florham got back one back with 6:34 to go, but Reynolds pushed the Cougar lead back up to 7-2. The Devils responded with two goals before the half to make it 7-4 MU heading into halftime.
FDU-Florham struck again 33 seconds in the second half to make it 7-5. L. Kocovsky scored a man-up goal for the Cougars to push the lead back to three, but a Devils goal just over a minute later made it 8-6 heading into the fourth.
The teams traded shots early in the fourth, with both goalies making some impressive saves. FDU-Florham scored twice in under a minute to make 8-8 with 5:34 to go.
Two minutes later, DeMichele cut to his right and then quickly back to his left, causing his defender to fall as he beat the keeper to give Misericordia at 9-8 lead. The Devils tied things at 9-9 with 1:17 to go.
MU got three shots off in the final minute, forcing the Devils goalie to some difficult saves, but couldn't break through.
Josh Shanker had 12 saves for the Cougars, including one that was shot from point blank range. Shanker also had a good day distrubting the ball out the back.
The loss drops MU to 7-6, 2-3 in the MAC Freedom.
