Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cougars Cruise Past Buffalo State

The Misericordia University women's soccer team won 3-0 over Buffalo State, Sunday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Alex Gallagher, Jeanna Orfanos and Hannah Larkin each scored once. Kylen Smith had two assists while Ashley Edgell and Alexa Alchevsky had one apiece. Alyssa Pojero had three saves in goal to earn the shutout.

Misericordia looked dangerous early and in the 24th minute, they capitalized.

Gallagher ran onto a through-ball from Edgell on the left side of the 18 and took a touch before slotting the ball into the right corner of the goal. MU continued to attack, creating multiple opportunities.

Nine minutes later, Evelyn Logie played a short pass from a corner to Gallagher, received the ball back and played a short cross into the box that bounced around before the keeper punched it back out.

In the 39th minute, MU gave the Bengals defense a case of déjà vu, with Edgell again playing Gallagher through on the left side. This time though, her shot went just wide of the far post.

Seconds later, the Cougars made it 2-0.

Smith got the ball MU's side of the field, sprinted down the left wing and whipped a cross towards the back post from 35 yards out. Orfanos ran onto it, chipped the ball over the keeper, the ball bounced off the back post and into the net.

In the 42nd minute, it appeared the Cougars had increased their lead to 3-0. Logie smashed a shot off the crossbar before Alchevsky headed the ball over to Rebecca Robins who smashed it in, but she was called offsides.

Misericordia went into the half with 2-0 lead.

In the second half the Cougars had several chances to increase their lead and in the 79th minute, they found the back net for a third time.

K. Smith curled in a ball off a corner from the left side, Alchevsky headed the ball towards goal where it caromed off Larkin's knee and in.

MU had nine shots, held Buffalo State to five shots and also didn't allow any corners to the Bengals. Misericordia had seven corners.

The Cougars will play at Arcadia, Saturday at 2:30.
