The Misericordia University field hockey team lost to University of Scranton, 2-0, Tuesday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.
The game was a battle in the midfield early on, with the first shot of the game coming 20 minutes in from
Kyleigh Knell which the Scranton keeper stopped.
Six minutes from halftime, Scranton scored when one of their players got to a loose ball in front of goal and poked it in.
Misericordia drew a corner to end the half that resulted in a
Rebecca Kaschak shot, but it was blocked. Scranton cleared the ball to end the half with a 1-0 lead.
MU ramped up the pressure in the second half, creating multiple opportunities to score.
Four minutes into the second half, MU drew a penalty corner that ended with
Melanie Fry lifting a ball over the defense but the keeper pushed it wide.
With 22 minutes to go in the game
Colby Eldridge ripped a shot from the side of crease towards the far post but it went just wide of goal.
Seconds later
Nicole Paranich got the ball, carried it past two defenders before she sent it across the goalmouth.
Kailey Vogl redirected the ball towards goal but the Scranton keeper got a toe on it to knock it away. Â
With a little under six minutes in the game, Scranton scored again to close the scoring at 2-0.
Jenn Gazdick made four saves in goal for the Cougars.
MU had more shots than the Royals, 14-10, and had more penalty corners, 9-8.
MU will play Catholic, Saturday at 2:00.
