Catholic Edges MU Field Hockey

The Misericordia University field hockey team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to Catholic, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Michaela Halesey scored her first career goal for the Cougars.

The Cougars had the first good scoring opportunity on a corner early in the first half.  Kailey Vogl played a corner to Maddie Keegan who played the ball back to Vogl near the left post but her shot was just wide.

Keegan ripped a shot off a corner late in the first half and Vogl's deflection went across the crease wide right.

MU blocked a Catholic shot at the other end, but Marykate McCracken gathered the loose ball and stuffed it in for a 1-0 lead with nine minutes remaining.

The Cougars came out aggressive after halftime and carried much of the play throughout the second half.

Halesey ran down a loose ball near the left post and put a tough-angle shot inside the post to tie score with just under 15 minutes remaining.

The Cardinals netted the game-winner with less than six minutes remaining.

MU will travel to Haverford, Wednesday.
