The Misericordia University field hockey team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to Catholic, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Michaela Halesey scored her first career goal for the Cougars.
The Cougars had the first good scoring opportunity on a corner early in the first half.Â
Kailey Vogl played a corner to
Maddie Keegan who played the ball back to Vogl near the left post but her shot was just wide.
Keegan ripped a shot off a corner late in the first half and Vogl's deflection went across the crease wide right.
MU blocked a Catholic shot at the other end, but Marykate McCracken gathered the loose ball and stuffed it in for a 1-0 lead with nine minutes remaining.
The Cougars came out aggressive after halftime and carried much of the play throughout the second half.
Halesey ran down a loose ball near the left post and put a tough-angle shot inside the post to tie score with just under 15 minutes remaining.
The Cardinals netted the game-winner with less than six minutes remaining.
MU will travel to Haverford, Wednesday.
