The Misericordia University women's volleyball team opened MAC Freedom play with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-16) sweep at Delaware Valley, Wednesday.
Paige Shaughnessy and
Michelle Sehested both had eight kills while
Coleby Charlier added six.
Kaitlin Wheeler had a team-high seven aces and Sehested and Shaughnessy added five and four, respectively.
Nicole Tagerty had 15 assists and Shaughnessy had nine digs.
Tagerty had two aces as part of a 4-0 run late in the first set as the Cougars took a 23-17 lead. Â Two Del Val errors eventually closed the set.
The Cougars used two big spurts early in the second set to take a 12-2 lead.
Sehested had three straight aces as the Cougars jumped in front, 7-1.
After a Del Val point, Wheeler followed with four consecutive aces for a 12-2 lead and the Aggies never got closer than eight points.
Trailing 10-7 in the third set, MU tied it on kills by Charlier and Sehested and an ace by Shaughnessy.
MU went ahead 18-14 on a kill and two aces from Sehested and they put the match away with six straight points to take a 24-15 lead.
Misericordia improved to 5-5 and will host Penn College, Saturday at noon.
