Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Defeats Johnson & Wales

The Misericordia University field hockey team won 4-1 over Johnson & Wales, Saturday afternoon.

Suzhaunna Lerch, Kailey Vogl, Melanie Fry and Kyleigh Knell all scored for the Cougars. Colby Eldridge had two assists while Haley Gruber had one.

Misericordia struck first, just over two minutes into the game from a penalty corner. Eldridge received the ball from Vogl on the right side of the crease. Eldridge sent the ball over to Fry who was on the opposite side and she smacked a shot off the keeper and into the net to make 1-0.

Twelve minutes later, MU struck again.

Fry came down the right side and passed the ball to Gruber at the near post, who passed it through traffic to Vogl on the far post and she tapped it home. Misericordia went into the half with 2-0 lead.

Seven minutes into the second, Knell notched a goal of her own. A loose ball rolled to her eight yards from goal and she blasted it into the left side of the cage.

Seven minutes later Johnson & Wales got one back to make it 3-1 with a little over 20 minutes left in the contest. The Cougars would strike once more, from another well-executed penalty corner.

Eldridge ripped a ball into the middle from the left side that Lerch deflected in to provide the final goal and make it 4-1.

The Cougars outshot the Wildcats 13-5.

The Cougars will play Alvernia, Wednesday at 3:30.
