Gallagher Scores Twice as Cougars Beat Susquehanna

Two first-half goals from Alex Gallagher were the difference as the Misericordia women's soccer team beat Susquehanna, 2-0, Wednesday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.

Kylen Smith assisted the second goal.

MU had several opportunities to score before Gallagher opened the scored in the 14th minute

Eight minutes in, Jeanna Orfanos played the ball to Ashley Edgell inside the box and Edgell blasted a shot that went wide right of the goal.

A few minutes later, Gallagher crossed the ball towards Hannah Larkin as she sprinted towards goal but the ball bounced just out of her reach. MU capitalized on their next opportunity.

Gallagher got the ball on the right wing, dribbled to just outside the 18 and thumped the ball over the keeper's head to make it 1-0 MU.

Nine minutes later she struck again; Smith bent the ball in from the left wing towards the far post and Gallagher tapped it home to make it 2-0.

Gabby Babula, Orfanos, Gallagher and Larkin all put more shots on frame before half, but the River Hawks keeper was equal to all of them.

Two minutes into the second half, Edgell played a through ball to Gallagher which she ran onto and put a shot on frame the keeper saved it.

Eight minutes later, Jordyn Martini found herself all alone just inside the box and lashed a shot towards goal, but it went over the crossbar.

In the 62nd minute, Gallagher got the ball on the left wing, beat a defender before cutting inside and playing Edgell in on goal. Edgell blasted a shot past the keeper, but it bounced off the crossbar.

In the 76th minute, K. Smith sprinted down the left wing and crossed the ball to the back post. Orfanos leapt in the air and headed the ball back towards goal, but it went wide.

Alyssa Pojero made four saves to earn the shutout.

The Cougars outshot the River Hawks, 23-5 and held the edge in corners, 6-0.

The Cougars will play RIT, Saturday at 1:00.
