The Misericordia men's basketball team lost to Delaware Valley, 83-70, Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.

Griffin Sponaugle had 18 points and four rebounds to lead the Cougars. Noah Rivera had 12 points and four rebounds while Jake Szczecina added 12 points off the bench. Tre Fields had 10 points and four rebounds.

The Aggies scored twice before MU scored twice through Tony Harding layups to tie it up at 4-4.

Delaware Valley went on a 17-8 run to make the score 19-12, but Fields scored twice to bring MU within one. He made a layup and then snagged a rebound off the proceeding Delaware Valley miss. Fields took the ball coast to coast and finished while being fouled to make it 19-16. He swished the foul shot to cut the deficit to two.

Delaware Valley scored five straight points, Sponaugle hit a deep three from the right wing and the Aggies scored again. Next, Fields drove strong to the hoop, spun past his defender and converted another layup while being fouled. He made the foul shot to make the score 26-23 Delaware Valley.

Delaware Valley nailed a three before the Cougar bench came in and closed the half on 13-4 run. Szczecina scored on a layup off a feed from Brunson and drained a three before Earl Chang hit a runner in the lane to cut the deficit to one. The Aggies scored inside before Szczecina hit back to back three's, the first to tie the score and the second to take the lead 36-33. The Aggies scored inside before the horn to make it 36-35 at half time.

Sponaugle started the second half with a reverse layup in traffic, got fouled and made the free throw to make it 39-35. Two buckets from the Aggies knotted things at 39 with 18 minutes remaining.  Rivera scored on a put back and Fields found Sponaugle for a top of the key three to make it 44-39, but that would be Misericordia's largest lead the rest of the way.

The Aggies ripped off a 13-0 run over the next four minutes to make it 52-44.

The Cougars hung around, but an Aggie jumper pushed the score to 70-58 with 4:30 to go in the game.

Sponaugle hit a three from the wing, Stone McCreary hit a three from the right corner and Sponaugle drained two foul shots to get MU within four, 70-66.

Delaware Valley closed the game out on a 13- 4 run to end it.
