Seely Leads Cougars Past King's

Cougars Win Block Party at King's

The Misericordia women's basketball team picked up a 60-49 win at King's, Wednesday evening at McGrane Gymnasium.

Justine Seely led the way for the Cougars with 31 points, 18 rebounds, six blocks and three steals. Paige Wampole came off the bench with six points and nine rebounds while Rachel Carmody had five points and six rebounds.

The Cougars came roaring out to on a 14-0 run in the opening eight minutes of the game. Seely scored 12 of the 14 points, with Leanne Forsyth scoring the other bucket on a layup. The Monarchs scored on back to back possessions to make it 14-5. Wampole scored off a pass from Liz Waleski and Jaclyn Hajec drilled a three from the top off the key as the quarter ended to make it 19-5 after one.

Hajec opened the second quarter by lobbing a pass over a defender to Carmody who laid the ball in off the glass. King's responded with a jumper from the left wing with 9:17 left in the second quarter. Misericordia again prevented King's from scoring for over eight minutes; the Monarchs did not score until there was 20 seconds left in the half. MU went into the half up 32-9.  
Forsyth made a foul shot and Seely scored on a layup in the first two minutes, but the Cougars wouldn't score over the next six minutes as King's went on a 9-0 run. The Monarchs outscored the Cougars 21-7 in the third as they cut the MU lead to nine at 39-30.

Seely made two foul shots and Carmody drained a three from the left wing to push the cougar lead back to double digits, but King's quickly cut the lead back down to nine. The teams traded buckets over the next several minutes, with King's scored off a driving layup to cut the lead to eight, 53-45, with 1:47 to go. MU went 7-8 at the foul line down the stretch to ice the game.

The Cougars won the battle on the boards, 55-46.

The teams combined for 18 total blocks, with Seely leading MU with six while Olivia Hoffman of King's had eight.

The Cougars move to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in the MAC Freedom.

They will host DeSales, Saturday at 1:00.
