The 19
th-ranked Misericordia women's soccer team beat the Eastern Eagles, 4-1, Tuesday afternoon in St. David's, Pennsylvania for their fifth straight win. It is also the third game in a row in which they have scored four goals and is the 250
th career win for head coach
Mark Stauffer.
As has been common in recent games, the Cougars were very balanced offensively, getting goals from four different players:Â
Jackie Stevens,
Ashley Edgell,
Amber Hartranft and
McKenzie Ruffing. Stevens and Hartranft both added assists.
Stevens opened the scoring with her seventh goal of the season in the sixth minute of the game, followed by goals by Ashely Edgell,
Amber Hartranft and
McKenzie Ruffing all within the first 14 minutes of the game.
Misericordia (10-2-2, 3-0 MAC Freedom) outshot the Eagles 23-3, including 11-2 in shots on goal. They also had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Stevens gave the Cougars an early lead when she fired from the top of the box into the lower left corner of the net at 6:07.
Just under three minutes later, Edgell received the ball from Hartranft and got past the defense before to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
In the 13
th minute,
Hannah Larkin took a short corner from Stevens and was able to find Gallagher near the left post, who swung it over to Hartranft who was waiting by the right post and put it away in the open net.
Just over a minute later, Misericordia scored again off a corner as Stevens sent the ball directly into the box where Ruffing was able to head the ball into the upper 90 for her first career collegiate goal.
Eastern (5-5-3, 2-1 MAC Freedom) scored its only goal of the game in the 59
th minute on a penalty kick.
