Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

MU Women Win Sixth Straight

The 19th-ranked women's soccer team extended its winning streak to six games with commanding 6-0 win over the Valiants of Manhattanville, Saturday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.

Five different players scored for the Cougars led by Alex Gallagher with two. Hannah Larkin, Devyn Anderson, Jackie Stevens, and Kenzi Pfeifer also scored while Ashley Edgell racked up three assists.

The Cougars were in control the entire game, outshooting Manhattanville 24-3, including a 14-2 advantage on shots on goal. Misericordia also had four corner kicks while not allowing any on defense.

Misericordia took an early lead when Larkin tapped in a perfect crossing pass from Edgell in the sixth minute.

In the 11th minute, the Cougars doubled their lead thanks to Gallagher, who placed a shot into the upper right corner from outside the box just out of reach of the Valiants' keeper.

MU scored its third goal of the game in the 31st minute when Larkin sent a ball into the box that bounced off two defenders before Anderson knocked it in.

In the second half, Gallagher got the team's fourth goal and her fourth of the season in the 49th minute when she received a pass from Edgell and sent a ground ball toward the corner of the net from 30 yards out.

About five minutes later, Stevens scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season by knocking it in from close range off the third assist of the game by Edgell.

In the 81st minute, the Cougars scored their season-high sixth goal of the game, taking advantage of a defensive misplay by the Valiants.  A Manhattanville defender passed back to the goalkeeper but she was unable to handle it, leaving an open net for Pfeifer to score her first career goal.

Up next for Misericordia is a home match against Wilkes in a battle of regionally-ranked teams, Wednesday at 6:30 at Mangelsdorf Field.
