Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

MU Women Roll Past DeSales

The 20th ranked Misericordia women's soccer team used a balanced attack to defeat DeSales, 4-0, Saturday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.

Misericordia (9-2-2, 2-0) was in control the entire match, taking 24 shots to the Bulldogs' 10 and had a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Cougars also had eight corner kicks compared to zero for DeSales.

Jackie Stevens, Alex Gallagher, Devyn Anderson and Saffron Hughes all scored goals.

The Cougars had eight shots in the first 20 minutes, but weren't able to find the back of the net. Stevens had the best chance when she hit the crossbar.

MU was able to break through on their ninth shot when DeSales failed to clear the ball from their own end. The ball found the foot of Alex Gallagher who turned and fired from 35 yards out, squeezing it between the goaltender's outstretched fingers and the crossbar.

The Cougars doubled their lead in the 38th minute when Jordyn Powell found Anderson just outside the box and she finished, despite the goalie getting a hand on her shot.

Stevens scored on a free kick from 30 yards out and put the ball in the upper 90 of the net in the 53rd minute.

DeSales (6-5, 1-1) had their best chance in the 70th minute when Angelica Bertola was able to get past the defense but her shot went wide.

With the game in hand, Saffron Hughes added a fourth goal for the Cougars with six seconds left in the game on a header off a cross from Kailee Crockett. It was the first career goal for Hughes.

Alyssa Pojero had three saves in goal for MU.

Misericordia will face Eastern on the road, Tuesday at 4:00 in another MAC Freedom contest.
