Kenny Reaches 1,000 Points in Opening Night Loss

Box Score The Misericordia men's basketball team dropped the season opener to Franklin & Marshall 92-84, Wednesday evening at the Anderson Center.
 
Jason Kenny notched his 1,000th career point on a free throw attempt in the second half and finished with 16 points and four assists. Tre Fields had 19 points and six rebounds while Noah Rivera added 18 points on a perfect shooting night, going 6-6 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line.
 
Fields scored the first basket of the season with a three-pointer to give the Cougars an early 3-2 lead.  The teams traded baskets until Stone McCreary hit a big three to give the Cougars their last lead of the first half at 24-23.
 
F & M went on a 6-0 run spanning two minutes to re-take the lead and the Diplomats extended the lead to 10 with 31 seconds left in the half.  Kenny's free throw and a dunk by Tyerell Mann pulled the Cougars within 44-37 heading into halftime.
 
The Cougars went on a 6-2 run to start the second half.
 
Just over three minutes into the second half Kenny hit the second of two free throws to reach 1,000 point in his career. Moments after, Fields' dunk brought the Cougars within 52-51, but an 11-2 run by the Diplomats made the score 63-53.
 
Misericordia cut the led to five with 8:34 remaining when Alec Rodway drilled a corner three but Franklin and Marshall responded with an 8-2 run to make it 77-66.
 
McCreary hit his fourth three-pointer of the night with 2:25 left to bring the Cougars to within six.
 
The Cougars will face Rutgers-Camden Friday at 3:00, in the first round of the Scotty Wood Tournament.
