Juniata Women Remain Unbeaten With Win Over MU

The Misericordia Cougars women's basketball team fell to the Eagles of Juniata, 70-58, Wednesday evening at the Anderson Center.

Rachel Carmody led the Cougars with 14 points and five rebounds. Japriya Carroll added 12 points and Jordan Barth chipped in with six points and a team-high seven boards.

Misericordia had a slight 46-42 rebound advantage while each team had 26 points in the paint and 13 second-chance points.

The Cougars got off to a good start, taking a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. Five different players scored for the Cougars in the quarter, led by Jacelyn Hajec with four points.

The second quarter was controlled by the Eagles, who used a 10-1 run to take a 34-28 halftime lead.

Misericordia went on a 9-2 run coming out of the break, culminated by two Liz Waleski free throws to take a one point lead.

After some back-and-forth play, the Cougars took a 46-44 lead on a three by Hajec, but the Eagles closed the period on a 9-2 run to take a five-point lead into the final quarter.

In the fourth, the Cougars got to within three at 57-54 on a layup by Paige Wampole with 6:37 left.

However, Juniata ended the game on a 13-4 run to secure the victory and improve to 6-0.

The Cougars are back in action, Saturday at 2:00 when they travel to take on Utica.
