MU at Wilkes in Women's Soccer Title Match

The Misericordia University women's soccer team will travel to Wilkes University to take on the Colonels in the 2017 MAC Freedom Championship game, Saturday at 5:00 at Schmidt Stadium.
 
The defending MAC Freedom champions, Misericordia is seeded second after finishing 12-4-2 overall and 5-2 in the MAC Freedom during the regular season.  Wilkes is the top seed after concluding the regular season at 12-2-3 overall and 5-2 in the MAC Freedom.  Wilkes won the regular season meeting, 1-0.
 
Misericordia earned its spot in the title game with a 2-0 victory over DeSales, Tuesday. McKenzie Ruffing got the Cougars on the board late in the first half while Alex Gallagher added a late insurance goal.
 
Wilkes secured its spot by defeating Eastern, 1-0, in double overtime, Tuesday. Nicolette Towlen scored the game winner for the Colonels.
 
Admission for MAC Freedom championships is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students.  Children under six-years-old are admitted free.
 
Senior Jackie Stevens (8g, 3a) leads the Cougars in scoring with 19 points while classmate Alex Gallagher (7g, 3a) adds 17 points.
 
Ashley Edgell (4g, 3a) adds 11 points and Amber Hartranft and Devyn Anderson both have nine points on four goals and an assist.
 
Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Pojero has five shutouts and a 0.62 goals against average for the Cougars. She also led the conference with an 84.7 save percentage.  Senior back Emily Szeflinski was the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year.
 
In its ninth consecutive season in the post-season, Misericordia has won four MAC Freedom titles (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016).  MU fell to Wilkes on penalty kicks in their only previous post-season matchup in 2015.
 
Wilkes is led in scoring by Diana Connor's 15 points on seven goals and one assist. Nicolette Towlen has nine points (4g, 1a) and Ema Sabovic (3g, 1a) adds seven points. 
 
Courtney Stanley (13-2-3) leads the conference with a .54 goals against average and has made 45 saves. She has played all but 12 minutes for the Colonels this season.
 
Misericordia was third in the MAC Freedom with 2.05 goals per game while Wilkes was fifth with 1.44.
 
Stevens and Gallagher are fourth and fifth in in the league in scoring, respectively, while Connor is eighth.
