Balanced Attack Leads MU Women at Keystone

Quintessa Zamolyi scored a team-high 12 points to lead a balanced attack as the Misericordia University women's basketball team defeated Keystone, 74-46, Saturday afternoon in LaPlume.

Japriya Carroll added 10 points for the Cougars, who had 13 players in the scoring column.  Paige Wampole had six points and 10 rebounds. 

Zamolyi grabbed eight rebounds as the Cougars hauled in 55 boards, including 22 on the offensive end.

Jackie Hajec hit a three-pointer from the left wing and Kalynn Sefcik sank a jumper in the lane as the Cougars took a quick 7-0 lead.

Carroll drove from the right side before pulling up for a jumper to make it 9-2 and Zamolyi's put back gave MU a 12-4 lead with 1:48 to go in the first quarter.

Liz Waleski drilled a three-pointer from the top of the key to close the first period with a 15-7 lead.

Waleski opened the second quarter with a foul line jumper to make it 17-7.

Wampole finished a nice feed from Brenna Karnish and Leanne Forsyth hit a baseline jumper off an inbounds pass for a 25-12 advantage early in the second period.

Hajec hit a short jumper off her own miss and then finished a three-on-two break to give MU a 32-13 lead with 3:26 to go in the second period. 

Karnish drained a three-pointer from the right wing to make it 35-15 with 2:29 to play in the first half and neither team scored the rest of the way.

Waleski and Karnish hit back-to-back three-pointers to give the Cougars a 49-24 lead with 3:54 to go in the third period.

Zamolyi converted a three-point play off a nice pass from Erica Haefele to stretch the lead to 52-26 late in the third quarter.

The Cougars won their fifth straight game to improve to 6-4 and will open MAC Freedom play at Manhattanville, Wednesday.
