MU Women's Rally Comes up Short

The Misericordia University women's basketball team dropped its MAC Freedom opener to FDU-Florham, 66-63, Saturday afternoon in the Anderson Center.

Rachel Carmody and Paige Wampole both had double-doubles to lead the Cougars.

Carmody had 19 points and 16 rebounds and Wampole had 10 rebounds and 18 points as the Cougars out rebounded the Devils, 67-40.
Wampole had 11 of MU's 25 offensive rebounds.

Gabrielle Harris led FDU-Florham with a game-high 30 points.

The Cougars trailed by 12 points late in the third quarter, but rallied to within 64-63 with 33 seconds left in the game on a Carmody layup.

The Devils converted two free throws with less than a second remaining and MU's game-tying attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.

Down 53-44 with 8:27 to play, Leanne Forsyth found Carmody underneath off a Wampole rebound.  Wampole added two free throws on the next possession to get within 53-48.

Wampole's block and rebound led to a three-point by Japriya Carroll at the other end to cut the margin to 55-53 with 6:08 to go.

Two free throws from Carmody kept MU within 59-57 with 2:53 left, but the Devils answered with a three-pointer.

Down 62-57, Brenna Karnish entered the game and fired a long inbounds pass to Wampole for a layup with 1:38 to play.

After an FDU bucket, Karnish sank two free throws and Carmody followed with a layup to get MU within 64-63.

The Cougars will host Penn College, Monday at 7:00.
