Griffin Sponaugle scored a game-high 23 points as the Misericordia University men's basketball team ended the regular season with a 78-55 win at Manhattanville, Saturday.
Jason Kenny added 12 points and
James Hawk had 10 as the Cougars closed their MAC Freedom schedule on a four-game win streak to finish 18-7 overall and 9-5 in the MAC Freedom. They earned the third seed for this week's conference tournament and will travel to Eastern, Wednesday. Top-seeded Delaware Valley will host DeSales in the other semifinal.
Sponaugle had five three-pointers and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Trailing 10-4 after three minutes,
Noah Rivera made a layup and Kenny drained a three-pointer before Hawk converted a three-point play to pull MU even, 12-12.
Stone McCreary hit a three-pointer to give the Cougars their first lead, 19-17, midway through the first half and they never trailed again.
Tre Fields and Mike Brunson added three-pointers to complete a 12-0 run and give MU a 27-17 lead with 7:06 left in the first half.
Sponaugle and Kenny combined for 15 points over the final 5:14 of the first half as the Cougars closed on a 17-5 run to take a 47-27 halftime lead.
Manhattanville cut the lead to 63-51 with 7:08 remaining, but Sponaugle answered with two three-pointers over the next four minutes as the Cougars stretched the lead to 74-52 with 3:35 to play.

Tyler Bernath closed the scoring with a three-pointer in the final minute.
