MU Women Fall in Regular Season Finale at Manhattanville

Box Score The Misericordia women's basketball team lost their season finale at Manhattanville, 61-51, Saturday afternoon at Kennedy Gym.

Rachel Carmody had 20 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Shannon Croasdale had 12 points and seven rebounds while Jaclyn Hajec had nine points and three assists off the bench.

Carmody carried the Cougars early, scoring the first nine points to put MU up 9-4 in the first four minutes. The Valiants came down and hit a three to cut the Cougar lead to two before Leanne Forsyth found Croasdale alone on the left wing. Croasdale swished a three to push the lead back to five.

Manhattanville went on a 10-1 run over the next four minutes to take the lead at 17-13 with under thirty seconds left in the first. Forsyth found Carmody under the hoop to cut
the deficit back to two, but the Valiants scored on a midrange jumper so Misericordia trailed 19-15 after one.

Manhattanville opened the scoring in the second quarter with jumper in the corner to push their lead back to six at 21-15. The Cougars responded over the next two minutes.

Paige Wampole split a pair of free throws, Liz Waleski knocked down a three off a Hajec assist, Carmody scored on a put back and Waleski returned the favor assisting a Hajec three to make it 24-21 MU.

Neither team scored for the next three and half minutes before Manhattanville made four free throws to take a 26-25 lead. Forsyth drove to the hoop and scored to give MU the lead back. The Valiants scored on a contested jumper and Hajec split a pair of free throws to knot the game at 27 with less than a minute remaining.  MU held the ball to try and get the last shot and it paid off, with Hajec scoring on a left handed layup to make it 30-29 at halftime.

A Carmody layup and Croasdale three-pointer were the only field goals of third quarter for the Cougars as Manhattanville tried to pull away. At the end of the third MU was down 11, 48-37.

MU started quickly to open the final period. Hajec grabbed an offensive rebound, dribbled it back to the left wing, saw no defender followed her and swished a three. Croasdale scored on a layup, the Cougars got another stop and Justine Seely scored off a pass from Hajec to cut the deficit to four at 48-44 with 7:58 to go.

The Valiants closed the game on a 13-5 run to end the game.

The Cougars finish the year 18-7 overall and 11-3 in the MAC Freedom.

Misericordia will host DeSales in the MAC Freeedom semifinals, Wednesday at 7:00.
