The Misericordia women's lacrosse team beat Susquehanna, 9-6, on an overcast morning at Mangelsdorf Field.
Kaila Quinlivan had five goals and seven draw controls, Lexee Wiley had two goals and an assist, while
Kate Raab and
Liz Mulvey each had one goal.
Olivia Garcia and
Amy Roth had one assist apiece.
Katie McLoughlin made eight saves in goal for the Cougars.
Taylor Simeone had four caused turnovers and two ground balls while
Brianna Ladner had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Riverhawks had control of the game in the opening minutes, and scored five minutes into the game.
Misericordia quickly took a timeout to regroup. The Cougars started to put pressure on the River Hawk defense. Roth set up Quinlivan for her first goal of the game and MU tied things up at 1-1.
A burst of goals over the next two minutes saw Susquehanna take the lead back, Wiley tie things back up for MU before the River Hawks struck again to take a 3-2 lead with 17 minutes left in the half.
Neither team could find another goal over the next 15 minutes as the defenses stymied the offenses. After a Susquehanna turnover, Quinlivan took the ball the length of the field and fired a shot past the keeper to make it 3-3. McLoughlin kept the scored tied going into the half, making three saves in the final two minutes including an impressive stop on a low shot from close range.
Goals from Raab and Quinlivan with a Riverhawk goal scored in-between them made it 5-4 MU with 26 minutes left in the game.
Less than a minute later, Wiley found Quinlivan for another goal and Mulvey scored off a free position attempt as Misericordia opened up a 7-4 lead.
The Cougars possessed the ball for much of the next 10 minutes as they tried to control the game, but the River Hawks wouldn't quit. They scored with just under 14 minutes left with MU up two, 7-5.
With less than eight minutes on the clock, Quinlivan took the ball, split two River Hawk defenders and beat the keeper to make it 8-5.
Susquehanna scored to make it 8-6 with a minute and a half to go, but Wiley scored off a pass from Garcia to make it 9-6 with 43 seconds left.
The River Hawks had two free positions attempts in the final 30 seconds, but both shots went wide.
The Cougars return to action, Wednesday at 4:00, at Scranton.
