Santo Guinta hit a pinch-hit solo homer in the top of the 10
th inning to lead the Misericordia University baseball team to a 3-2 win over St. John Fisher, Sunday in Union, NJ.
Tyler Holzapfel and
Jeremy DeCotiis both had two hits for the Cougars while Holzapfel and
Alec St. Pier both drove in runs.
Tim Burek earned the win in relief while striking out seven over 5.1 shutout innings.
Misericordia took a 1-0 lead when Holzapfel led off the second inning with a triple to center field and scored on St. Pier's squeeze bunt.
Conor Smith reached second base on an error to lead off the fourth and moved to third on
Alec Iurato's sacrifice bunt. Holzapfel singled to right center to give MU a 2-0 lead.
Fisher tied it on a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth and the score held until Guinta's game-winning homer.
The Cardinals got the tying run on the base in the bottom of the 10
th, but Burek got two strikeouts to end the game.
Misericordia is 7-4 and is scheduled to face FDU-Florham, Friday.
