The Misericordia University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at Muhlenberg, 3-2, 10-1, Thursday.
In the opener,
Abby Marzzacco had two hits and drove in two runs, including the game-winner in the top of the seventh inning.
Taylor Kenerson added two doubles and drove in a run and scored twice.
Jordan Hoffman worked three hitless innings of relief to pick up the win.
In the nightcap,
Alexis D'Amico and
Melanie Quintanilla both had three hits and
Lori Brennan hit a grand slam.Â
Brooke Moyle had two hits, including a solo homer, and drove in three runs.
Marzzacco, Kenerson and
Jordan Hoffman all added two hits. Hoffman worked the first three innings to get her second win of the day with relief help from
Victoria Schmidt.
After Muhlenberg took a 2-0 lead in game one with runs in the second and fourth, the Cougars tied it with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.Â
Caitlin Kennedy led off the frame with a single to left and scored one out later on Kenerson's double to left. Kenerson moved to third on a sacrifice and scored the tying run on Marzzacco's single down the left field line.
Kenerson doubled to left with one out in the seventh and moved up on a ground out.Â
Alexis D'Amico reached via hit by pitch before Marzzacco put the Cougars in front with a single through the left side.
In game two, MU grabbed an early lead with two runs in the first and led 5-0 after two innings.
Moyle led off the game with a solo homer to right and Marzzacco beat out a roller in front of the plate. D'Amico singled through the right side and Hoffman made it 2-0 with a single to right field.
Jess Pluta led off the second with a double to center field and moved to third on Kenerson's infield single. Moyle double to right center to drive in two runs and advanced to third one out later on D'Amico's bunt single. Quintanilla made it 5-0 with a two-out single to left center.
Muhlenberg got a run back in the fourth, but the Cougars put the game away with five runs in the top of the fifth. Marzzacco led off with an infield single and moved up D'Amico's bunt single before Quintanilla singled up the middle to load the bases. Brennan cleared them with a grand slam to left field to make it 9-1.
Pluta reached on a fielder's choice and eventually scored the last run on an outfield error.
Misericordia will open MAC Freedom play at Delaware Valley, Saturday.
