MU Softball Splits MAC Freedom Opener

The Misericordia University softball team opened its MAC Freedom schedule with a split at Delaware Valley.  After dropping the opener, 1-0, the Cougars took the nightcap, 6-5.

In the nightcap, Melanie Quintanilla had two hits and two RBI and Taylor Kenerson had two hits and scored twice.  Alexis D'Amico had a hit and two RBI.

Jordan Hoffman scattered seven hits over 4.2 innings to earn the win with relief help from Brooke Moyle.

The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the top of third.  Mackenzie Yurko drew a lead-off walk and moved up on Kenerson's single up the middle.  Moyle reached on an error to load the bases.  After a fielder's choice, D'Amico singled down the left field line to drive in two runs.

MU scored twice more to take a 4-1 lead in the fourth.  Caitlin Kennedy doubled to left to lead off the frame and stole third.  Kenerson tripled to center field and later scored on a wild pitch.

Del Val pulled within a run and the Cougars responded with two runs in the top of the seventh.  Moyle and Abby Marzzacco reached on back-to-back errors and scored on Melanie Quintanilla's single up the middle.

The Aggies put the potential tying run on second base with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Moyle got two strikeouts and a ground out to end the game.
In the opener, Moyle absorbed the loss despite striking out 11 and allowing just four hits.  She had two of MU's seven hits.

The Aggies took advantage of two MU errors in the sixth inning to score the game's lone run.  The Cougars loaded the bases in the top of the seventh on singles by Lori Brennan and Jordan Hoffman and a bunt single by Mackenzie Yurko but were unable to plate the tying run.

The Cougars will visit Wilkes, Saturday.
