The Misericordia University baseball team beat SUNY Maritime, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon in Fort Pierce, Florida at the Bob Gladwin Complex.
Drake Koch went 5.2 innings, allowing two runs and striking out three.
Brett Davis got the win in relief: he went 3.1 innings and allowed no hits while tallying four strikeouts.
Jeremy DeCotiis was 1-4 with a walk and two runs scored.
Alec Iurato was 1-3 with a triple, a RBI, a walk and a run scored, while
Tyler Holzapfel went 2-3 with two RBI.
The game was scoreless through five innings, before SUNY Maritime put their two runs on the board in the top of the sixth. Misericordia came right back and tied things in the bottom of the inning.
Conor Smith smacked a double to right field and stole third before scoring on an Iurato triple down the right field line. Holzapfel singled through the right side to plate Iurato.
The Cougars scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Kenny Jarema walked and Holzapfel was hit by pitch, both with the bases loaded.
MU tacked on an insurance run in the eighth. DeCotiis walked to get to first, and during the next at bat the pitcher tried to pick him off. The ball went flying into right field territory and DeCotiis scored from first to make it 5-2.
Davis struck out the side in the ninth to end the game.
Misericordia will play La Roche, Thursday at 9:30.
