The Misericordia University softball team split a pair of games in Lake County, Florida, Thursday.
The Cougars beat Heidelberg in the opener, 6-5, before dropping the nightcap to Ohio Northern, 5-1.
Lori Brennan blasted a grand slam in the opener and
Melanie Quintanilla had three hits.Â
Brooke Moyle and
Alexis D'Amico both had two hits to make a winner of
Victoria Schmidt.
Quintanilla singled to drive in Moyle with the game-winning run in the top of the seventh.
Jordan Hoffman scattered nine hits over 5.1 innings with Schmidt working 1.2 innings of shutout relief.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second against Heidelberg.Â
Caitlin Kennedy led off with an infield single, moved to second a sacrifice bunt and stole third. Hoffman singled up the middle to give the Cougars the lead.
Heidelberg took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second and the score held through four innings until the Cougars put up four runs of their own.
Moyle singled up the middle with one out and moved to second on D'Amico's single through the left side. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt and Quintanilla walked to load the bases to set the stage for Brennan's homer and put MU ahead 5-4.
Heidelberg tied it in the sixth, but the Cougars answered with the winning run in the top of the seventh.
Moyle doubled to left center to open the inning and moved up on a sacrifice bunt. With two down, Quintanilla grounded a single through the left side to plate the winning run.
D'Amico had two of Misericordia's four hits against Ohio Northern while
Caitlin Kennedy drove in MU's run.
Moyle worked 3.1 innings while absorbing the loss with Hoffman tossing 3.2 innings of shutout relief.
Ohio Northern scored twice in the top of the first and added a run in the third. They went up 5-0 in the fourth before the Cougars got on the board.
D'Amico led off the fourth inning with a single and eventually scored on Kennedy's fielder's choice.
Misericordia will complete its southern trip with a pair of games Friday.
