Drake Koch and four relievers held Moravian to just one earned run to lead the Misericordia University baseball team to a 6-4 win, Tuesday at Tambur Field.
Koch scattered seven hits over six innings and allowed just three unearned runs while striking out three.
James Magaldi,
Mike Blazaskie and
Brett Davis worked the next two innings before
Elliot Forde came on in the ninth to earn the save.
Parker Abate had a hit, an RBI and scored two runs and
Jonathan Juri added an RBI.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after two innings and added an insurance run in the seventh.
Kenny Jarema was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first and moved to second on
Tyler Holzapfel's single through the right side. After a successful double steal, the Cougars took a 1-0 lead when both runners advanced on a throw to first base following a dropped third strike. Holzapfel came home on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
MU used a similar formula to plate three runs in the second.Â
Steve Weisensee was hit by a pitch to open the inning and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by
Billy Kerwien. Abate singled to right to drive in a run and took second on a wild pitch.
Brett Davis raced to second on a wild pitch on a dropped third strike with Abate coming around to score to make it 4-0. Jarema doubled to right center and Juri followed with a sacrifice fly to give MU a 5-0 lead after two innings.
Moravian took advantage of a two-out error to score three unearned runs in the fifth and pulled within a run with a run in the seventh.
The Cougars got a run back in the seventh when Abate drew a one-out walk, and went station to station on a sac bunt, ground out and error to score.
Misericordia, 15-6, will open a MAC Freedom series with King's, Wednesday at 3:30 at Tambur Field.
