The Misericordia University softball team swept Keystone College, 2-0 and 8-3, Wednesday afternoon at Anderson Field.
Brooke Moyle tossed a complete game to get the win in game one, allowing three hits with nine strikeouts.
Melanie Quintanilla went 1-2 with an RBI and
Abby Marzzacco went 2-3 with an RBI.
MU scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third.
Mackenzie Yurko led off with a walk and
Taylor Kenerson bunted her over to second. Quintanilla smacked a single to right center to plate Yurko.
Moyle silenced Keystone for the first 3.2 innings of the game before the final batter of the fourth singled to left.
MU doubled their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Yurko was hit by a pitch, Kenerson reached safely and Quintanilla bunted them over to put runners at second and third. Two batters later Marzzacco singled to score Yurko and get Kenerson to third as MU took a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Moyle got the first batter to fly out to right. After a single to right the next batter struck out swinging. Quintanilla made a diving catch in front of second base to end the game.
Jordan Hoffman got the win in game two. She went 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and striking out four.
Yurko went 2-4 with two doubles and two runs scored.
Abby Marzzacco went 2-4 with a double, four RBI and a run scored.
Lori Brennan went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Jessie McDonough went 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
Jessica Pluta went 3-4 and Quintanilla went 1-3 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored.
Marzzacco made an impressive sliding catch on a ball in shallow right center field to get the second out of the first. MU scored twice in the bottom half of the inning.
With one out,
Alexis D'Amico singled and then advanced all the way to third when the center fielder misplayed the ball. Marzzacco grounded out to first to score D'Amico. Brennan hit a single through the left side and Pluta slapped a single to left field. McDonough smashed a double to left center to make it 2-0 MU.
Keystone scored their first run of the game with a double to right center to make it 2-1.
Yurko led off the bottom of the second with a double down the right field line. Quintanilla walked, D'Amico grounded out to the pitcher and both runners advanced. Marzzacco smacked a ball down the left field line that stopped in shallow left field. Marzzacco got to second standing and both runners scored to make it 4-1. Brennan singled up the middle to score Marzzacco and Pluta singled to left. McDonough was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Moyle singled through the left side to make it 6-1.
Keystone scored on a two-run homer to left to make it 6-3.
MU scored two more in the bottom of the fifth to make it 8-3.
MU is now 18-18 and will finish MAC Freedom play at DeSales, Saturday at 1:00.
