The Misericordia University baseball season ended with a tough loss against #6 Wooster, 12-0, in the NCAA Mideast Regional, Friday morning.
Elliot Forde went 5.0 innings, allowed two hits and struck out seven out of the bullpen.
Chad Bell went 2-3,
Sean Lyons went 1-3 with a double while
Conor Smith and
Tyler Holzapfel each went 1-4.
Wooster got on the board in the top of the first on a two-run bomb to left center. They scored two more in the second off of a two-run single to right to go up 4-0 after two.
Sean Lyons got the first hit of the game for MU with a double to right center in the bottom half of the second.
Forde entered with two runners on and 2-0 count in the third inning. One run scored on fielder's choice as the runner was thrown out at second. Forde got the next batter to line into a double play at short with Jarema catching the ball and firing the ball back to first to end the inning.
In the fourth, Forde allowed a single up the middle before he struck out the next three batters, the top of the Fighting Scots lineup, with 11 pitches.
In the fifth Forde got the first batter to pop up to first and struck out the next batter looking. The next batter walked and stole second before he struck out the final batter swinging to end the inning.
Forde got out of the sixth on nine pitches. He struck the first guy out swinging, the next guy popped out to short along the left field line and the final batter grounded out to third.
Forde allowed one run in the seventh, on a ground-rule double with runners at first and second. With one out and runners at second and third, he got the next two batters to pop up to third and strike out swinging to end the threat.
Wooster scored seven runs across the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
Misericordia finishes the season 30-14.
