MU Volleyball Splits Again

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Misericordia University women's volleyball team split a tri-match with Cairn and Farmingdale, Saturday in the Anderson Center.

The Cougars swept Cairn, 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-22), before falling to Farmingdale, 3-1 (25-22, 14-25, 16-25, 17-25)

Paige Shaughnessy, Coleby Charlier and Tara Welliver all had five kills in the opener while Ariana Gagliardi, Mikayla Gunkle and Mackenzie Mee all had three aces.

Gagliardi had 19 assists and Maggie Martin added eight digs.

Trailing 6-4 in the opener, the Cougars used an 8-2 run, including five kills by Shaughnessy, to take a 12-8 lead.  Back-to-back kills by Watson gave MU a 22-13 lead.

Mee had two straight aces as part of an 8-3 run to give MU a 13-7 lead in the second set.  Mee later added her third ace to end the set.

Welliver had two kills and Emily Lunny added an ace in a 5-0 spurt to give the Cougars an 18-11 lead in the nightcap.

Gunkle and Martin had aces to close out the set.

Against Farmingdale, Michelle Sehested had a team-high 11 kills and Jassmine Watson added nine.

Gagliardi had 16 assists and Karley May had 13.

Kaitlin Wheeler had a team-high 16 digs.

Down 16-12 in the first set, Wheeler's ace and kills by Charlier and Welliver pulled the Cougars even.

Sarah Pool had an ace and a kill and Watson had two kills as MU took a 22-19 lead.

Watson, Shaughnessy and Charlier had kills to seal the win.

Farmingdale rebounded to win the next three sets.

Misericordia, 9-4, will visit Eastern in MAC Freedom action, Tuesday.
