Edgell and Orfanos Score Twice in Win Over Eastern

The #12 Misericordia University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to a season-best four games with a 6-0 win over Eastern University, Wednesday on Mangelsdorf Field.

The Cougars controlled the majority of play with a commanding 42-1 shots advantage over Eastern. They have outscored opponents 22-1 over the last four matches with goals from 13 different players.

Ashley Edgell and Jeanna Orfanos each tallied a season-best five points with two goals and one assist apiece. Hannah Larkin and Mackenzie Love were responsible for the other two Cougar scores.

Edgell got the scoring started in the 7th minute when Michaela Fasolino played her the ball from 35 yards out. The senior forward controlled the ball on the run and beat the keeper one-on-one.

Nearly a minute later, Edgell connected with Kate Field, who then played the ball to Orfanos on a push pass to take an early 2-0 advantage.

In the 15th minute, Larkin buried a shot in the top-left corner after a beautiful centering pass from Orfanos. Moments later, Larkin returned the favor when she fired a shot on goal, which was controlled by Orfanos for a put back score. It was Orfanos' second goal of the game and her team-leading sixth score.

In the 36th minute, Edgell wrapped up the first half with her second goal of the game off a volley from Evelyn Logie to give the Cougars a 5-0 lead. Edgell is second on the team with five goals and 11 points.

The Cougars had two penalty kicks in the second half. Sara Lockwood took the first kick, but was denied by a diving stop in the 76th minute.

However, the Cougars were awarded another penalty kick in the 88th minute after the goalkeeper earned a yellow card for tackling Love in the box. The first-year forward beat the keeper low to the left side for her first career goal.

Alexis Benedetto recorded her third consecutive shutout and her sixth of the season. She has allowed just one goal in three conference games.

The Cougars improved to 9-2-1 on the season with a 3-0 MAC Freedom mark. They will play at Delaware Valley, Saturday at 5:00.
