Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Seniors Shine in Senior Day Victory

Haley Gruber scored and Kailey Vogl collected two assists as the Misericordia University field hockey team honored both seniors in a 4-2 victory over Delaware Valley, Saturday on Senior Appreciation Day.

Vogl tallied her first assist when she connected with Kyleigh Knell in the 56th minute. Knell cut to the cage from the left side and scored off a one-timer pass from the center of the circle for her second goal of the season.

In the final minute of play, Gruber added on an insurance goal after putting back a shot from her fellow senior. It was Gruber's second consecutive game with a goal and Vogl's fifth point of the season.

Vogl nearly notched the team's first goal in the 18th minute following her own penalty corner. After entering the ball to the top of the circle, Vogl positioned herself behind the goalkeeper, but fired a one-timer off the post.

Misericordia got the scoring started when Brynn Lansenderfer found the back of the cage off an assist from Kayla Pogash in the 28th minute. Pogash played the ball into a crowd and Lansenderfer scored off the ensuing scrum to give the Cougars a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Early in the second half, the Cougars quickly provided themselves with some breathing room courtesy of Jenna Whitman. The sophomore's shot from the top of the circle snuck through traffic and went between the goalkeeper's legs for her first career score.

Sadie Strober and Jess Dixon were responsible for the Aggies goals. Strober scored in the 50th minute off a put back through traffic while Dixon connected on a breakaway in the 61st minute.

Field hockey improves to 2-4 in the MAC Freedom. The team will wrap-up conference play versus Wilkes, Wednesday at 7:00.
